About
I am currently researching the figures of Ecclesia and Synagoga, two images, used in varying mediums from around the ninth century, to symbolize Christians and Jews. I am particularly interested in their origins in the Early Middle Ages and in the evolution of the pair in the High Middle Ages. The figures in these periods, the embodiment of Jews and Christians in the female body along with their presence in the scholarship of Hildegard of Bingen, is the subject of research for my M.A. in Medieval History.
Otherwise, a considerable portion of my interests lie in what I term the "darker side of history." I am interested in danse macabre art, death and shifting understandings and attitudes toward death after the Black Plague of 1348 and up to 1600. Burial rituals, saint cults, art and literature surrounding death and related subjects are also of interest.
